Gulfport is a city in and the county seat of Harrison County, Mississippi. According to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was over 71,000 and it is the larger of the two principal cities of the Gulfport-Biloxi Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is actually a part of the Pascagoula Combined Statistical Area.

Much of the city was leveled by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, mainly because it was hit by the stronger east side of the hurricane. It actually endured over 16 hours of hurricane-strength winds and rain. Most of the city, however, has been rebuilt today. It is the home of both Brett Favre, the NFL quarterback and Stuart Roosa, one of the 24 men who traveled to the moon.

During the summer months temperatures in the city typically hit around 90 degrees during the day, with overnight lows often dropping down to around 70 degrees. During the winter months, however, temperatures typically hit around 65 degrees during the day with overnight lows often dropping down to around 50 degrees.
