Meridian, home to over 75,000 residents, is the third-largest city in the state of Idaho and is the state’s fastest-growing city, though nearby Nampa is close behind. Meridian is located in what is known as “Treasure Valley,” along with Nampa and Boise, and sits in between the two (Boise to the east, Nampa to the west). The city has grown incredibly rapidly since the 1990’s, with much of the growth attributed to a surge in the city’s retail and technology sectors, as well as the growing economy of nearby Boise and Nampa. The entire Treasure Valley area of Idaho is growing, as a matter of fact, though at the same time it is still not all that popular of an auto transport location, mainly due to the lack of major interstate running through it.

Meridian began as a small settlement carved out of farmland in 1891. Naturally, farming became the main economic component of the community, and in 1903 it was officially incorporated. Early settlers had no idea about irrigation, which in that area of Idaho is rather crucial to continued cultivation of crops and the success of Idaho farms, and the farmland around Meridian was being offered by the U.S. Land Office, which required that it be used as farmland. Settlers had to quickly learn how to irrigate their land and crops, and irrigation today is still a crucial factor in the continued success of Meridian’s agricultural sectors. True growth began in the early 20th century, once railroad tracks were built through the area. This gave Meridian a link to the rest of the country, which helped the city flourish. The population, however, would remain under 10,000 until the 1990’s; over the past twenty years or so, Meridian has grown to 85,000 residents, with continued growth and development expected.

Meridian has a semi-arid climate, characterized by four distinct seasons including hot summers and cold winters. Summer highs reach into the low-to-mid 90’s, though temperatures in the triple digits are not unheard of. Overnight lows during the summer season tend to drop into high 50’s or low 60’s. Winter temperatures are much colder, with daily highs only reaching into the upper 30’s and low 40’s, while overnight lows can plummet down into the low-to-mid 20’s. Snowfall is light during the winter, but is not unheard of, which can help when it comes to shipping a vehicle to or from Meridian, as the winter weather isn’t often prohibitive to moving in and out of Treasure Valley on the whole.
