Information About the College of William and Mary

The College of William and Mary is the second-oldest institute of higher education in the United States, after Harvard. Founded by a royal charter in 1693, it has educated four presidents, sixteen members of the Continental Congress, and four signers of the Declaration of Independence. This has earned it the nickname “Alma Mater of the Nation” and it is definitely well-earned.

The campus itself is sprawling and home to many buildings first constructed during colonial times. The Christopher Wren Building is the oldest collegiate building in the United States. The campus is split into two sections: “Old Campus” and “New Campus.” The Old Campus features academic buildings as well as student housing. New Campus houses much of the same, but those buildings were build during the 20th century, whereas Old Campus buildings were constructed centuries ago.

Preparing for Auto Transport to William and Mary

Located in Williamsburg, Virginia, William and Mary sits about an hour southeast of Richmond. It also sits about 50 miles away from Virginia Beach, the largest city in the state. On the whole, finding auto transport to William and Mary shouldn’t be an issue, especially for students. It is located not far from I-64, which sees plenty of car shipping traffic throughout the year.

The weather should not play much of a factor in your shipment either, at least when it comes to the weather in Williamsburg. Carriers have a hard time transporting vehicles through snow and ice, after all – it’s hazardous. But Virginia doesn’t see much of that type of weather, at least not in the vicinity of William and Mary. So unless you’re shipping during the winter months from an area that sees a lot of snow, you shouldn’t have any issues finding a carrier to travel to or from the college.

The older composition of the buildings and the city in general may require carriers to meet you off-campus for pickup or delivery. This is pretty common; many carriers simply can’t access tight spaces due to the size of their trucks. If this is the case with your shipment, don’t fret; you’ll coordinate with your agent and your carrier to find the right pickup and delivery addresses for you.
