Auto Transport Tips: Don’t Be a Jerk
This is quite possibly the one tip that no one will listen to, which is ironic because it’s the one that people need to hear the most. When it comes to dealing with auto transport companies, their representatives and what they do and the services they provide, you don’t need to be a jerk. You don’t need to be an asshole, you don’t need to yell and scream into the phone because your shipping company can’t give you what you want. You don’t need to sit there on the phone and bitch out some poor auto transport representative who can’t get your car picked up in three days because you’re ignorant, okay? The auto transport industry is not fast food. This isn’t Burger King. You don’t get it your way. You don’t get to move your car from Los Angeles to New York City in three days for $400. That’s laughable.
But people – many people – expect that they’re in charge when they ship their car. Newsflash: you’re not. In fact, the customer probably has the least amount of control during transportation of a vehicle. But it’s part of the industry, and something that you need to accept when you ship a car. Just like when you watch wrestling, you can’t get upset because it’s fake, and no amount of yelling or screaming about it is going to change it. Your pickup windows will be one to seven days. It may take longer to get your car picked up. It will not be cheap. You cannot ship down the East Coast a thousand miles for $100. It will be expensive, it will take time, and you will have so little control you want to scream. Suck it up. You don’t get to cry foul to the waiter when you order a cheese omelette and then get a cheese omelette. You’d get punched in the mouth.

If you are at work, don’t give us your work number unless you can get calls at work or you own the company. If you book your transportation with a company, do not expect them to get your vehicle picked up tomorrow. They will not be able to. Expect delays and expect things to not go perfect. Auto transport is an industry where you have to take what you’re given and roll with the punches, because there’s often not a lot of control anyone has. We’re serious.
