Auto Transport Tips: Full Disclosure
We’ve broached the topic of communication before in this blog, but in this edition of our Auto Transport Tips blog series we’re going to talk about full disclosure, or, the art of telling your auto transport representative everything about your vehicle. When you’re trying to ship a car oftentimes you’re talking to people who have been shipping cars for years (well, at least if you find a shipping company that sent you a quote from a request you filled out on our website, hint hint), and this can make it a lot easier to communicate what exactly it is you’re looking to ship. Sometimes, however, your representative has no idea what your car looks like or how much higher it is since you put those huge 53-inch tires and 10-inch lift kit on your F-250, and if you don’t tell them, they won’t know.
This is called full disclosure. You want to make sure that your auto transport representative has a thorough understanding of what you’re shipping, particularly the overall height and weight of it. These are important factors, height because of space requirements on a transport truck, and weight because of weight capacities on auto transport trucks. Sometimes a pickup truck or SUV can be so big it won’t fit on a car carrier no matter where you put it, so it has to be shipped via a flatbed or specialized enclosed trailer. This can be a pain, and while it may be more expensive it’s necessary to ensure it gets moved properly and securely. Failing to disclose information regarding your vehicle won’t make it any cheaper to ship it; it’s just going to cause a lot of problems down the road. Failing to disclose all the information about the physical parameters of your vehicle can lead to booking the wrong type of carrier. This wastes everyone’s time, but none more so than the carrier that can’t pick your vehicle up; you basically just lied to someone and promised them a job just to turn them away. That’s not generally something that’s tolerated in this industry, so for your sake and everyone else’s, please tell your transport representative all about the vehicle you’re shipping prior to booking your order. Not only will you save yourself time and hassle, but you’ll also be able to get a more accurate quote, which will be more likely to get your vehicle picked up quickly.
