Pittston 1Pittston is a city located in Luzerne County, in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. Currently home to a population of over 7,700 residents, Pittston was once a major anthracite coal mining area, though today it is much more like most contemporary U.S. cities. Founded as early as 1770, the area was once the site of a small army fort that was hotly contested during the American Revolution, and today a marker stands where the old fort was located. Pittston grew into a mining area during the 1830’s and 40’s, and remained a major player in the coal industry through its peak in 1920, when the city had close to 18,500, though today most of the coal industry has since left the area.

Auto Transport to and from Pittston

Pittston sits inside the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Metropolitan Statistical Area, the fourth-largest metro area in Pennsylvania. While the metro area may see a decent amount of auto transport traffic, Pittston really doesn’t – it’s small, kind of out of the way, and for a number of years was on the decline in terms of population and economic status. This has led to Pittston being low on the totem pole in terms of car shipping popularity, but at the same time car shipping companies shouldn’t have too hard a time getting into or out of the area thanks to it being located just south of Scranton and north of Wilkes Barre.

The city sits just west of I-81, which is really useful for you and should help keep your pickup and delivery windows lower and your auto transport prices lower as well…or, at least, relatively lower. The area may not be the most popular amongst car transport carriers, but I-81 allows transporters to quickly get through the area and on with their lives, which is about as good as you can get when it comes to cities the size of Pittston. You may be able to save some time and money by moving your pickup or delivery location out of Pittston and into an area that is easier to access for those shippers, but you’ll want to discuss it with your agent to find the best areas around.
