Pekin is a city in as well as the county seat of Tazewell County, in the U.S. state of Illinois. Home to a population of a bit over 34,000 residents, Pekin is the 13th-largest city in the state of Illinois and sits just a few miles south of Peoria. Though the area was first explored by Europeans as early as the 1680’s, it did not see any development until a town was platted in the late 1820’s. Over the past almost-two hundred years, Pekin has grown slowly but somewhat steadily, and today its economy is a mix of retail, finance, education manufacturing and insurance, and is the location of Pekin Insurance, a regional insurance company.

Auto Transport Tips to and from Pekin
Pekin is located a few miles south of Peoria, which of the two cities is probably the more popular in terms of auto transport services. Peoria has the advantage of anchoring a larger metropolitan area and, overall, being a larger city; with more people, albeit not by a lot, Peoria tends to see more auto transport traffic. At the same time, though, Pekin is only a few miles away, which is hardly a trip at all for someone who drives across the United States for a living. Pekin’s proximity to Peoria will likely help you more than hinder you, as it keeps prices lower since carriers don’t have to go as far out of the way.
Most carriers will be getting into the Peoria area via I-74, which runs right through the city, but access to Pekin is restricted to state highway and surface streets, which is not as ideal for a car shipper hauling ten different vehicles on an 80-ft truck. It takes them off their established route, though to get to Pekin it’s a bit easier and also pretty quick if they’re coming from Peoria. It is close to I-74 and indirectly accesses the highway via a state highway connecting to I-474, an auxiliary interstate of I-74 that services southern Peoria. At the very least it gives carriers options on how to get into and out of Pekin, and that makes all the difference in terms of price and popularity.
