Auto Transport by Region: The South Atlantic States
The South Atlantic region of the United States comprises eight states and one district, those states being Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, and Georgia, and the district of course being Washington, D.C. The South Atlantic is part of the overall Southern United States, and has a rich and diverse (if somewhat checkered) history. The region was quite well known for various agricultural commodities, particularly cotton in the Deep South states, tobacco in the more central states, and industry to the north – the region is also where much of the fighting of the U.S. Civil War took place (1861-1865), and also where much of the efforts of Reconstruction were drawn. Today the region is an integral part of the country, and some of those states are some of the most popular in the auto transport industry.
Florida, really, is the most popular state for car shipping services, and this is for several reasons. For starters, the weather is beautiful – one of the few tropical states in the country, Florida sees a lot of traffic in the form of snowbirds, who actually ship their vehicles down south from the northeastern states, often passing through almost the entire South Atlantic region before reaching Jacksonville, Orlando or Miami. The area is also quite favorable for older citizens who need a bit more sun in their lives, as well as those that enjoy calm, fair weather during the winter months as opposed to the cold New England snows. It also helps that auto transportation companies prefer running routes to and from Florida as well, mainly because of all the major metropolitan areas and population centers that the state has. Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville, Tallahassee and Tampa are all major metro areas that see a lot of transportation traffic, and the fact that there are many customers going as well only helps shippers keep their trucks full – and auto transport prices down.
What also helps when it comes to shipping to or from the South Atlantic states, even ones north of Florida, is the fact that Interstate 95 services almost every single state in the region (all but West Virginia, in fact). This is fantastic for the fact that almost every state has its own east-west interstate that runs into it and connecting somewhere along I-95, making it ten times easier for auto transporters to not only access the South Atlantic region but also access other areas nearby that can also make them money. Auto shippers go where the people go, and you’ll likely find that West Virginia and Delaware are a bit more expensive to ship to or from due to the fact that both are rather isolated in terms of their proximity to a major interstate. However, transporting your vehicle to or from major metro areas will likely yield you lower costs and quicker pickup times.
