Auto Transport Quotes: Chevy Silverado 3500HD Extended Cab

Chevy Silverado 3500HD Extended CabThe Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Extended Cab is one of many Silverado variants manufactured and sold by the Chevrolet division of General Motors. The 3500HD has roots in the old C/K lineup, started back in 1975; the moniker “Silverado” was, during those years, a specific trim level for Chevy’s C/K models and was not its own vehicle and did not sit on its own line, as it were, until 1998. Year-to-year changes have molded the Silverado over the years, but Chevrolet has always maintained that the Silverado – even when it was a part of the C/K lineup – is a work truck, through and through. The myriad ways you can build your own Silverado, and even the ones that come pre-packaged, are built with the working man in mind, and that’s according to Chevy directly.

When it comes to transporting a Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Extended Cab, you need to understand a few things. One, pickup trucks are generally more expensive to ship than standard cars or even small SUV’s, namely due to their overall size and weight. This is especially true for this particular vehicle, and it’s easy to see why. The “3500” moniker means it’s the largest Silverado, by chassis size, and the “HD” label means it’s “Heavy Duty.” HD trucks typically have stronger and more durable frames and suspension systems, which usually adds additional weight to the vehicle. Not only that but most HD models, at least on the Silverado line, have what are known as “dually” or “Duly” wheels – two sets of them, on the back, for a total of four rear wheels. This widens the pickup truck and allows for better traction when in unfavorable driving conditions. The “Extended Cab” means that it has the longer Silverado cab, with front and back seats, and is designed more for comfort in that regard.

All this adds up to a truck that can be really difficult to ship. The weight makes it more difficult for car transporters to easily ship it without having to spend more on fuel for their own trucks, and with most 3500HD Extended Cab models being of the “dually” variety, the extra width can also cause problems for car transportation companies. Vehicles that are too large – either too wide, tall, long or heavy – cannot be shipped on a standard auto transport truck, and the 3500HD runs the risk of that depending on its configuration and the size of the car transport carrier that your driver is hauling around. Usually, the 3500HD Extended Cab is one of the most expensive variants to ship for precisely all the reasons described in this paragraph.

Does that mean they’re impossible to ship? Of course not, but it does mean you may have to jump through some additional hoops in order to get yours secured onto the back of a car transport truck. If your Silverado can’t fit on said truck it’ll need to be shipped via a flatbed carrier, which is even more expensive and time-consuming.
