Auto Transport to Provo, Utah
Provo is a city in as well as the county seat of Utah County, Utah, and is the largest city in the county and third-largest in the state with a population of over 112,500 residents. Located roughly 40 miles south of Salt Lake City, along the Wasatch Front and is currently the home of Brigham Young University and the largest missionary training center for the Church of Latter-Day Saints, who have a large influence over the town. Provo currently anchors the smaller Provo-Orem Metropolitan Statistical Area, currently home to over 526,000 residents and the third-largest by population in the state of Utah, after the Salt Lake City and Ogden-Clearfield metro areas. Provo was first founded as Fort Utah as far back as 1849. It was the site of the Battle of Fort Utah, fought in 1850.
Utah generally isn’t a popular shipping location, at least in the car shipping industry, because there are few major interstates and not a lot of people living there – though far more than some other states, which helps the cause a bit. Major shipping areas in Utah tend to be Salt Lake City and West Valley City, the two largest by population in the state and the anchors of the largest metro area in all of Utah. This generally leads to higher prices and longer pickup and delivery times for shipments into Provo, as fewer car shippers are actually willing to run routes through the region.
Not all is lost, though; Provo benefits tremendously from Interstate 15 passing right through it and connecting it with Salt Lake City and other major interstates including Las Vegas and Los Angeles. I-15, though not the most popular highway for car transport companies, is nonetheless one of the best and easiest routes for auto transporters servicing the more remote areas of the western United States. With so much area in each state – and many of them, like New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Utah, having rather sparse populations to boot – finding a route that will actually be cost-beneficial is more difficult through those areas than ones that are smaller, or that have larger cities or easier routes within them.
During the summer months is when prices tend to be highest, as demand is also at its highest and the prices tend to be more controlled by carriers than brokers; during the winter months, at least on popular routes, this tends to change, since fewer loads are available and carriers now have to compete against each other. This may not necessarily be the case in Provo, though, as winter weather can drop a foot of snow per month in the area from November to March, and average highs only reach into the low-to-mid 20’s. This makes it more difficult for auto transport companies to actually physically get in and out of Provo, which usually leads to higher prices.
