Waukesha was founded in 1834 and was actually named Prairieville when it was founded; however, in 1847, a mere year after it was incorporated as a city, the name was changed to Waukesha and has stayed the same since. Waukesha became unincorporated after the change, though was reincorporated in 1896. Waukesha is actually named for the leader of a local Indian tribe, though many believed (erroneously) that it was named after the Algonquin word for “fox.”

During the summer months the city’s temperatures hit around 82 degrees during the day, with overnight lows often dropping to around 61 degrees. During the winter, however, temperatures drop severely, with highs often topping out just above freezing and lows dropping to around 18 degrees overnight.
