Prineville is a city in and the county seat of Crook County, Oregon. According to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was over 9,000 and it is currently a member of the Bend, Oregon, Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is located in the central part of the state.

It was founded in 1877, though a post office had been set up six years prior in the area and had been named Prine. It was changed in 1878 to Prineville and it was incorporated in 1880, with lumber being the driving force for the economy. Today Prineville’s main claim to fame is the fact that it is the home of the first Les Schwab Tire Center, which is a chain of tire stores operating mainly in the Pacific Northwest.
