North Little Rock is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, and is located just across the Arkansas River from the town of Little Rock. According to an official census estimate conducted in 2005 the city’s population was over 58,000, which makes it the sixth largest city in the state. It is a part of the Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has a population of over 676,000 residents.
The city was originally known as Argenta which is now a section of the downtown area. In 1890 Little Rock annexed the area as its 8th ward, which prevented its incorporation as a town and a neighboring area was incorporated as North Little Rock and annexed the area later on. The name was kept as North Little Rock after its annexation. The minor league baseball team the Arkansas Travelers play their home games in North Little Rock, and is home to several post-secondary schools including the Pulaski Technical College and the U.S. Dept of Veterans Affairs Police Law Enforcement Training Center.
During the summer months the city’s temperatures hit around 94 degrees during the day, with overnight lows often dropping to around 67 degrees. During the winter, however, temperatures hit around 35 degrees during the day, with lows often dropping to around 12 degrees or so overnight. Snow is relatively uncommon in the area, but not unheard of; still, auto transport to and from the area should not be hampered too much by inclement weather.
