Newberry is a city in the state of South Carolina and is located just 43 miles west of Columbia, the state’s capital. According to the 2000 US Census the city’s population was over 10,000 and was actually incorporated as a city in 1976. However, the status of the city wasn’t reported to the US Census Bureau, so for over 25 years the city was incorrectly listed as a town as opposed to a city.
