Marion grew slowly, thanks mainly to its much larger neighbor Columbus, and for years was known simply as a suburb of the major city as opposed to its own independent town. However, with urban flight taking hold in Columbus in the 1960\’s and 70\’s, Marion grew rapidly in size, though the population boom leveled off around 1975.

During the summer months the city\’s temperatures hit around 84 degrees during the day with lows often dropping to around 67 degrees overnight. During the winter months, however, temperatures drop severely, with highs topping off around 50 degrees and lows often dropping to around 27 or so.
