Longview is a city in and currently sits as the county seat of Gregg County, Texas; according to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was over 73,000, though the most recent U.S. Census, conducted in 2010, put the population at over 80,000. It is the principal city in the Longview Metropolitan Statistical Area and it is the commercial and economic hub of the area.
Longview was founded in 1850 and was originally known as Earpville, though it consisted of nothing more than a few houses, a church, a blacksmith and a general store before the name change. it would not be until the Southern Pacific Railroad Company built a railroad through the town that it would see any substantial growth, but afterward Longview was renamed and began to grow. Somewhat surprisingly, Longview was one of the few cities in Texas to actually show growth during the Great Depression; this has been attributed mainly to its diverse economy, which the city still enjoys today.
During the summer months, average daily highs in Longview tend to reach into the low-to-mid 90’s during the day, while overnight lows often drop down into the low-to-mid 70’s. During the winter months, temperatures usually hover in the low-to-mid 50’s during the day, while low temperatures often drop down near freezing overnight. Despite the major temperatures fluctuations, particularly in the winter months, snow is relatively uncommon, as with many cities in Texas, and usually the weather won’t affect your auto transportation services too drastically.
