Levelland is perhaps most famous for being the site of several major UFO sightings in November of 1957. Several people saw a large egg-shaped object emit a strange blue light, which caused all the automobiles in the area to shut off at the same time, and among the eyewitnesses to the event were the town sheriff and the fire chief. The city today is a major cotton and industrial town, as it has historically been since its founding.

During the summer months average daily highs in Levelland tend to reach into the low 90’s during the day, while overnight lows often tend to drop down into the high 60’s and low 70’s. During the winter months, however, temperatures typically only reach into the upper 50’s, with lows often falling down into freezing range overnight.
