Kingsport is a city in Hawkins and Sullivan County, Tennessee, though the majority of the city lies in Sullivan County. According to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the city’s population was over 44,000 and it is currently the principal city of the Kingsport-Bristol Metropolitan Statistical Area, which according to the 2000 US Census had a population of over 300,000 residents.

It was chartered in 1832 and was originally an important shipping port on the Holston River for quite some time – this helped the city to grow immensely at the time.
