Fremont is a city in and is actually the county seat of Sandusky County, Ohio. According to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the city’s population was over 17,000, though recent estimates place the population even higher. It is one of the many cities that former President Rutherford B. Hayes lived in and is known as a Tree City by the National Arbor Day Foundation.

Fremont began life as Lower Sandusky, though the US Post Office was often getting confused with Lower and Upper Sandusky, with the wrong mail going to the wrong cities and vice-versa. The name was changed to Fremont soon after its founding and was named in honor of John C. Fremont, an explorer who helped navigate and map the western frontier at the time.
