Elyria is a city in and the county seat of Lorain County, Ohio, and according to the 2000 US Census the city’s population was just over 56,000 residents. It is located in northeast Ohio along the banks of the Black River, and is also the home of Lorain County Community College, one of the largest community colleges in the state.

The city was founded in 1817 by Herman Ely, who built the first log house, dam, gristmill and sawmill, and because of his efforts the city quickly grew; by 1908 the city had been incorporated and the Elyria Memorial Hospital was built, which thus evolved into an award-winning regional hospital.
