Columbus was founded in 1820 by friends John Tipton and Luke Bonesteel, who built a small log cabin and general store and allowed the small town to grow. Settlers came to the area and in 1821 the name was changed from Tiptonia to Columbus, and continued to expand thanks mainly to new rail lines that criss-crossed the city. It is now considered its own major city as opposed to just a suburb of Indianapolis, thanks mainly to over 19,000 workers commuting to the city each day.

During the summer months the city’s temperatures hit around 85 degrees during the day, with overnight lows often dropping to around 60 degrees or so. During the winter months, however, temperatures hit around 45 degrees during the day, with lows often dropping below freezing overnight.
