Carson City is a city in and the state capital of the state of Nevada. According to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was over 52,000 and it is now an independent city as well as its own Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Carson City is located on what was known as Eagle Valley in the mid 19th century. In 1851 the Eagle Station Ranch was founded and located along the Carson River – it served as a trading post for travelers on the California Trail. In 1859 gold and silver were found in the Comstock Lode nearby, which helped the city to expand quickly during the subsequent gold rush and it became the state capital in 1864.
