Nampa is a city located in Canyon County, Idaho. Home to over 85,000 residents, it is the largest in the county and the second-largest city in the state, after Boise. Nampa is one of the fastest-growing cities in Idaho as well; since 1990 the population has risen from 28,000 to over 85,000 as of the most recent estimates. Nampa is a major part of the Boise-Nampa Metropolitan Area, and sits about 6 miles west of Meridian, the third-largest city in Idaho. Nampa is known for its outdoor activities; within the city limits are 24 different parks and the city is surrounded by forest which is teeming with hiking trails, fishing areas, biking paths, and much more.

Nampa began life as a small settlement outside of Boise in the late 1880’s along the Oregon Short Line Railroad, which ran from Granger, Wyoming to Huntington, Oregon. As the years passed more rail lines were built through Nampa, turning the city into a railroad hub and a rather important one at that. It grew rapidly, as it is wont to do, and was officially incorporated in 1890. Over the years Nampa has grown into a prominent retail center; though historically the town has been built around the railroad as well as other blue-collar jobs, more and more the city is seeing the rise of retail, with several shopping centers as well as a mall in the city. Through recent annexation and growth, Nampa is slowing gaining on the 100,000 population mark.

During the summer months, average daily highs in Nampa tend to get into the high 80’s to low 90’s during the day, but temperatures higher than that are not unheard of, including triple-digit heat. Overnight lows during the summer tend to drop down into the low-to-mid 50’s, however, a startling change from the highs of the day. Winter tends to bring colder temperatures; average highs in the coldest months only reach into the mid 30’s during the day, with overnight lows dropping into the high teens and low 20’s. Snow isn’t incredibly common, but it’s not unheard of, and the city can receive inches of snow at times during the depths of the winter months.
