Auburn is a city in and is actually the county seat of Cayuga County, New York. According to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the city’s population was over 28,000 and it is the home of the Auburn Doubledays, a minor league baseball team. The team is actually owned by the Auburn Community Owned Non-Profit Baseball Association, one of the few non-profit owned teams in the United States.

Auburn was founded in 1793 and was originally known as Hardenbergh’s Corners after its founder, Revolutionary War hero John L. Hardenbergh. It was renamed in 1805 after it was chosen as the county seat of Cayuga County, and the city is now the home of the Auburn Correctional Facility, which was built in 1816.
