Auburn and its surrounding area were first founded in 1786, though it wouldn’t be until 1802 that the town would become incorporated. It was originally a part of Cumberland County before it was named as the county seat of the newly formed Androscoggin County in 1854. Though it was incorporated as a town in 1802 it was reincorporated as a city in 1868 and became a mill town. Today, however, the economy has diversified severely and is still growing.

During the summer months the city’s temperatures hit around 82 degrees during the day, with lows often dropping to around 60 degrees overnight. During the winter, however, snow is common, with highs topping out just above freezing (around 34 degrees) and lows often dropping to around 17 degrees or so overnight.
