Auburn is a city in and is actually the county seat of DeKalb County, Indiana; according to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the city’s population was over 12,000. It is located wholly within Union Civil Township.

It was founded in 1836 by Wesley Park and, since its inception it has grown slowly but steadily. It was the location of the Auburn Automobile Company, though the company ended up folding in the early 1930’s. The city still associates itself heavily with the company, however, including using the company’s logo as the city logo and having the motto “Home of the Classics,” an obvious reference to the company’s automobiles.

During the summer months the city’s temperatures hit around 90 degrees or so during the day, with overnight lows averaging around 64 degrees. During the winter months, however, temperatures typically hit around 33 degrees during the day, with overnight lows averaging about 15 degrees.
