Anderson was founded just after Anderson County was founded in the early 1800’s, and settlers to the area were mainly from Scotland and Virginia to farm the fertile land at the time. Agriculture was a major draw to the city for quite some time, and it was the first city to have a continuous supply of electricity to the entire city. It earned the nickname “The Electric City” and has held it since.

During the summer months the city’s temperatures hit around 87 degrees during the day, with overnight lows often dropping to around 67 degrees.
