Alexander City is a city in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, and according to an official US Census estimate conducted in 2005 the city’s population was over 15,000. Alexander City was first founded in the early-to-mid 19th century, and was incorporated in 1872 as Youngstown, Alabama. The city’s original name came from the founder of the city, James Young, and it was reincorporated as Alexander City sometime during the late 19th century. The railroad came to the town in 1873, which helped to spur growth, though a fire in 1902 laid waste to much of the town. Rebuilding efforts were rapid, however, and the fire even helped spur a bit of growth. Today, Alexander City is primarily a recreational town, as mentioned, with much of its economy based on tourism and other tourism-related industries.

During the summer months temperatures in the city hit around 91 degrees during the day, with overnight lows often dropping down to around 70 degrees. During the winter months, however, temperatures typically hit around 60 degrees during the day, with overnight lows often dropping down to around 43 degrees. Rain is relatively uncommon, though it’s not unheard of; on average, 5 inches of rain fall in Alexander City each month, with more obviously coming during the winter and spring than the summer and fall.
