We know how hard it can be to get your car shipped. So when you’re choosing an auto transport company, there are a few things you should keep in mind before you pick one.
Many auto transport companies have different policies regarding payment. However, most companies only require a deposit, ranging from 10-25% of the total cost of shipment, up-front. When this occurs, payment in full is not required until the car is safely in your possession at delivery.
You can pay the deposit with a credit card, and that’s how most are handled. The rest of the balance will need to be paid to the truck driver when he delivers your vehicle
Carriers accept cash, cashier’s check, or money order. They will not take credit or debit cards, personal checks, or other forms of non-certified funds.
Auto Transport Contracts:
Just like you would when you buy a car or a house, make sure you read the fine print! The contract you sign is legally binding, and the auto transport company will be referring to its terms and conditions if you decide to make a complaint or if there are any discrepancies. So, make sure you know what their terms and conditions are before signing anything.
Guaranteed Delivery Date:
Many auto transport companies do not guarantee delivery dates. Let’s do that again: They DO NOT guarantee delivery dates. Since this entire industry is based on trucks that sometimes have eight, nine or ten other cars that they’re hauling, hang-ups and delays are bound to happen. Instead, they give pickup and delivery windows. These windows are usually 2-3 days wide, so keep thta in mind. If a company guarantees 100% pickup or delivery on a certain day, take it with a grain of salt.
Cancellation fees vary from company to company, but for the most part a cancellation will run between $50 and $250. Make sure that you refer to your contract regarding cancellation fees if you have any questions, or just ask your auto transport company.
When choosing an auto transport company, make sure you ask for a copy of their insurance coverage for as long as the vehicle is in their possession. If you are doing terminal-to-terminal shipping, make sure that your car is insured while it’s waiting to be picked up, and contact your personal insurance agency to confirm what your current policy covers (if you are unsure).
Remember, choosing an auto transport company can be quick and painless, as long as you know what you’re getting into.
