Across the Map: Alaska Auto Transport
Knowing what is in store for you when transporting your vehicle from one state to another is important. It allows you to make better decisions when choosing an auto transport company and helps you better prepare for the transport itself. That’s why we’ve decided that, in addition to our Auto Transport by City and Auto Transport Routes blog series, we’re adding a new one: Across the Map, which will give you some information about transporting from and to the various states in the U.S. We’ll most likely be doing them in order alphabetically, and there’s no better place to start than Alaska.
Transportation to and from Alaska happens a lot more often than you might suppose. There are entire companies dedicated to moving freight to and from Alaska every single day, which means that you stand a good chance of getting your car moved to or from Alaska quickly and at a great price. However, you do need to understand that there is no overland auto transport services available to Alaska – your vehicle must be shipped via an overseas auto transport company. When you book your order with your transport company what they’ll most likely do (unless you drive the car to the port yourself) is find a carrier to pick your vehicle up regardless of where it is and transport it to the port in either Seattle or Tacoma, Washington. From there, they’ll drop the vehicle off with the port shipper, who will store it until they can load it onto one of their overseas transport ships. This is known as roll-on/roll-off service and usually only applies to shipments going overseas. Your vehicle will be secured and then transported to the port in Anchorage or Juneau; some companies can also ship to Fairbanks, though usually that is the most expensive port to transport your vehicle to.
