Original Featured Articles by AmericanAutoShipping.com!Swine Flu: Targeting More Than Our Immune SystemsDuring President Obama’s thirty-minute prime-time speech this past Wednesday, he depicted a variety of issues currently requiring his attention. Among the issues listed, perhaps one of the most significant came in the form of two words: Pandemic Flu. By now, it would be surprising to find someone who has not heard of the viral flu sweeping the globe. The virus, H1N1 influenza virus, more commonly known as “Swine Flu”, is believed to have originated in the Mexican town of La Gloria in early April, and has already infected citizens of many continents, some as far away as New Zealand. The virus strain is a mutation comprised of bird flu, swine flu, and the human influenza virus. Within the borders of the United States there have been 68 confirmed cases of the virus infecting people as of Tuesday. These confirmed cases are spread between five states, 45 in New York, one in Ohio, one in Indiana, two in Kansas, six in Texas, and 13 in California. Already, there are thousands of students which will remain home as their schools have been shut down to try and decrease the rate at which the virus spreads. However, places such as Mexico City have also been economically impacted, having to shut-down establishments such as schools, churches, theaters, sporting events, and businesses. Officials say that on average, everyday the City remains in this shuttered state it costs the countries economy Millions of dollars. It would seem as if this virus is taking target at more than just human health. So how could this “Swine Flu” affect the American Economy? In the same way it has affected the economy in Mexico City, that’s how. Already we can see schools shut down in an attempt to slow the rate of infection. If the virus turns into a full out pandemic, it is not unlikely that other businesses and establishments will close to ensure personal safety. There is talk of implementing travel bans and border closures, although no such decisions have been confirmed. Such closures would surely have an impact on the transportation industry. Plane, train, and bus companies alike would see a major declination in the amount of travelers utilizing their services. Travel officials are already recommending not traveling to Mexico unless there are exigent circumstances. Other industries will also undoubtedly be impacted as well due to this rapidly spreading virus. The auto transport industry will also certainly see an impact. In order to offer their services, these transportation companies require clientele who need their autos transported. With officials implementing travel restrictions/ bans and the possibility of border closures, people will certainly think twice before they do traveling of any sort. Even examining movement within the United States there will more than likely be a decline in traveling just based on fear alone. If this virus does end up evolving into a global pandemic and begins to claim an excessive amount of lives, citizens everywhere will put their lives on hold to deal with the threat. This could very well include putting off any moves/relocations. With this number decreasing, we can see a proportional effect on the auto transportation industry. In coming months if the virus worsens, we may even begin to see travel restrictions from state to state. If this adverse step is ever a necessity, the industry will undoubtedly see an extreme economic impact, as would many other industries across the nation. Depending on the growth and rate in which this virus behaves, we may see some severe changes in our country in the coming months. Featured Article Footnotes
