Original Featured Articles by AmericanAutoShipping.com!Chrysler Sale to Fiat Blocked? In a not-quite-surprising turn of events, opponents to Chrysler’s sale to Fiat are going to the Supreme Court to block it. The opponents are three separate Indiana state pension and construction funds, who are claiming that the sale “unfairly favors the interests of the company’s unsecured stakeholders over those of secured debt holders” (AP), which include themselves. They claim that this is an important part of getting the American auto industry back on track, and the American people need to see that when the system is under the kind of stress it currently is in that the law will "properly scrutinize the actions of the...executive branch." Chrysler is hoping that the deal is closed by June 15th, when Fiat will then have the option of pulling out of the sale. However, production at the company’s manufacturing plants will remain halted until the sale is closed. This seems like just more bureaucratic bull from the people who are trying to block the auto industry from truly getting back on its feet, and the worst part of it is that this farce is costing the taxpayers money. At the end of the day, the company needs to do what it can to ensure that Americans keep their jobs, and obviously Chrysler doesn’t know what they’re doing to make that happen. The world is getting smaller every day, and globalization is inevitable. If we have to rely on a foreign auto maker to oversee our own auto corporations and make sure they’re doing everything right, then so be it – as long as people keep their jobs. These funds are just making waves, and it’s hurting not only American taxpayers, but the American auto industry even more. This is also affecting the auto transport industry (as everything else has in this horrible economy), because people are even less likely to buy a Chrysler or a GM car now that these scandals and arguments have gone public. Let’s hope that Chrysler, the courts and Fiat can come to a decision soon, because if they can’t, the American auto industry could be looking at an even bigger hole than the one they’re in now.
