East Tennessee

East Tennessee is dominated by the Blue Ridge Mountains, which border North Carolina. This is characterized by high mountains, including the Smoky Mountains, the Chilhowee Mountains, the Unicoi Range and the Iron Mountains. The average elevation is about 5,000 feet and Clingman's Dome (the highest point in the state) is located here.

Also in this region is the Ridge and Valley region, which has many tributaries that join to form the Tennessee River. This is covered with fertile valleys, separated by lots of forested ridges and the western portion of this is where the ridges become lower, earning the name the Great Valley.

The climate of East Tennessee doesn't differ all that much from the rest of the state. Although, due to the mountains, there is more rain here, generally the summers are hot and the winters cool, with some scattered snow. Perfect weather if you're looking for auto transport to East Tennessee.

Middle Tennessee

This region of Tennessee is mainly covered by the Cumberland Plateau. It's covered with flat-topped mountains, which in turn are separated by sharp valleys. West of this lies the Highland Rim, which is mainly an elevated that surrounds the Nashville Basin.

This area is known also as the Pennyroyal Plateau for it's high tobacco yield, but this is more located in southwestern Kentucky. This area is characterized by fertile farmland and high wildlife diversity. This area, if you're looking for auto transport, is perfect if you like hunting and fishing.

West Tennessee

West Tennessee is mostly known as the Gulf Coastal Plain, which also includes the Mississippi embayment. This is the predominant land region in all of Tennessee, and begins in the Gulf of Mexico (not in, but at) and extends all the way north into southern Illinois. This is also separated into three distinct regions, with the easternmost consisting of hills that run along the western bank of the Tennessee. The other two are mostly swamp land, lowlands and flood plains and is also known as the Delta region.

Like East Tennessee, both Middle and West have a humid, subtropical climate. This is mainly due to the Gulf of Mexico and summers are generally hot, with most of the state hovering at around 90 degrees. Winters tend to be a lot cooler, with temperatures in the mid 60's. However, the overnight lows can dip as low as 30 degrees in some parts.

Tennessee also experiences its fair share of severe weather. While it's too far away to get hit with the brunt of a hurricane, its aftereffects do hit the state. These are mostly just tremendous downpours of rain, and tornadoes are really not that uncommon. On average, the state experiences around 15 tornadoes per year, but these are usually quite severe and Tennessee leads the nation in the percentage of total tornadoes that have had fatalities. Fog, too, is a persistent problem, especially in the Smoky Mountains (hence the name). However, these tornadoes are few and far between, so don't let this effect your auto transport decision.
