AmericanAutoShipping.comAuto Transport to & From Rhode Island (RI)Some shippers may offer a discount if you mention you saw them on American Auto Shipping.com The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations (or simply Rhode Island) may be the smallest state in the Union, but it is one of the best to transport your car to.Although its name suggests otherwise, Rhode Island acutally resides mostly on the mainland of the United States, and not a single person living there is more than a 45-minute drive from the edge of the water. That's really great considering how many water sports Rhode Island offers: boating, water skiing, fishing, swimming...anything in the water you can think of, you can do it in Rhode Island. Rhode Island is mostly flat, because it has no real mountains...in fact, the highest natural point in the entire state is Jerimoth Hill, which is only 812 feet above sea level. Samuel Slater, who single-handedly invented the textile industry, set up Slater Mill on the Blackstone River, taking advantage of the river to power his cotton mill. This one act has labeled Rhode Island the "Birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution," a title ironic because the state itself is the smallest in the United States. Even though Rhode Island enjoyed the title of "textile leader," this prestige disappeared with the Great Depression, with most textile mills moving to the south. When you first come to Rhode Island, you'll notice that many people don't speak with a Rhotic accent. Instead, many Rhode Islanders speak with a cross between a Boston and a New York accent. This means that the letter 'r' is dropped at the end of a word: "water" instead becomes "wata," and often times will actually add an 'r' after certain words ending with 'a': "soda" becomes "soder." Interestingly enough, for fans of the Fox show Family Guy, anyway, that the show takes place in Quahog, which is not a real city but rather taken directly from Providence, RI. Also, another interesting fact is that Rhode Island is the only state to celebrate V-J Day (victory over Japan). Now, however, it is known as Governor's Bay Day. Shell food and seafood, however, is what Rhode Island is truly famous for. Their lobster and crab are delicious, and when you decide to use auto transport services to move to Rhode Island you'll notice that clam chowder is very common. In fact, three different, distinct types converge in many Rhode Island restaurants: the white New England, red Manhattan, and of course the clear Rhode Island Clam Chowder. Also, Rhode Island is the state that takes the credit for popularizing the "clam cake," which is a deep-fried buttery ball of dough with bits of clam inside. Rhode Island also has a very religious background. Home to the First Baptist Church in North America, which is also the oldest Baptist church in the Americas, it was founded by Roger Williams in 1638 and still holds services to this day. But Rhode Island isn't just the city, you know. Even though you don't hike in Rhode Island (you back-pack!), there are still many things to do. Because much of the state is not inhabited, camping and walking through its many forests is a wonderful way to spend a weekend. Just relaxing on the porch enjoying the beauty that is Rhode Island is, to many people at least, the perfect way to spend a day. Rhode Island is the paradise that you've always wanted to go to. To be able to take a quick drive to the coast, relax in the small towns and cities that populate it...you're probably thinking, why not move there? Well, why not?
