Utica is a city in and the county seat of Oneida County, New York, and according to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was over 60,000. It is situated in the Mohawk Valley and has an extensive park system, and it is also the principal city of the Utica-Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area.

It was founded by Welsh immigrants in 1773 and became one of the largest and most influential Welsh communities in the United States. After construction of the Erie Canal Utica became a major industrial powerhouse in the region and by the late 19th century had become the home of the United States’ textile industry. Today, however, it is the home of more service-based businesses, with manufacturing taking a backseat.

During the summer months temperatures typically hit around 83 degrees during the day, with lows often dropping down to around 58 degrees overnight. During the winter months, however, temperatures hit around 34 degrees during the day, with lows typically hitting around 16 degrees overnight.
