The city became famous for being the first city to host a shootout – this one between Wild Bill Hickok and Davis Tutt, Jr.
Hickok shot Tutt through the heart from seventy-five yards away, making him a national celebrity and outlaw. In 1870 the first railroad came to the city, starting a trend of urban and suburban development, and during the Second World War the city was a manufacturing center, making all kinds of things for the army and navy.
Temperatures in the city rarely get above ninety degrees in the summer, and lows rarely get below the mid 50’s, usually hovering around 60 or so. However, during the winter months, temperatures drop to around 40 degrees as a typical high, and lows extending as far down as the mid teens for much of the state.
