AmericanAutoShipping.comAuto Transport to and from SpringfieldSome shippers may offer a discount if you mention you saw them on American Auto Shipping.com Springfield is a city in Hampden County, Massachusetts, as well as the county seat. It’s the third largest city in Massachusetts and the fourth largest in New England, after Boston, Worcester, and Providence, with a population of just over 600,000 in the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is comprised of Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin counties. The city is actually part of the Knowledge Corridor, an area in New England which has more learning institutions than any other region, save for Greater Boston. The city was originally settled in 1635, and in 1640 the name was changed to Springfield. However, constant border disputes with Connecticut continued to plague the citizens of the city until resolved sometime in 1803. The city was the site of the National Armory after the Revolutionary War, and throughout the 1800’s the city’s manufacturing sector grew by leaps and bounds. However, disaster struck in 1936 when the Connecticut River flooded, leaving thousands of people homeless, entire sections of the town destroyed, and costing over $200,000,000 in 1936 money. Today, however, the city is once again beautiful, with many civic improvement projects continuing through the decade. The city lies in a mix between a humid continental climate and a humid subtropical climate, a situation that is normal throughout New England. Summers are warm and humid while winters are incredibly cold, windy and snowy. Summer temperatures rarely reach higher than 85 degrees, while lows can drop to around 65 or so; however, in the winter, temperatures reach no higher than the mid 40’s, and oftentimes lows are below freezing.
