AmericanAutoShipping.comAuto Transport to and from South BendSome shippers may offer a discount if you mention you saw them on American Auto Shipping.com South Bend is a city in Indiana, and as of 2006 had a total population of just over 107,000. The combined South Bend Metropolitan Statistical Area has a population of 316,000, and it is the county seat of St. Joseph County. It is the cultural and economic hub of the area known as Michiana (a portmanteau of Michigan and Indiana), and is best known as the home of the prestigious Notre Dame University.Like many cities in the Midwest, South Bend started as a trading post. The first settlers to the region began arriving in 1820, many on behalf of fur trading companies looking to increase their profits. The area was incorporated in 1835, and due to its location on the St. Joseph River, river commerce helped the city to grow leaps and bounds. However, since the 1960’s, the city’s population has declined, mainly due to urban decay during the 1970’s and 1980’s, and recent beautification efforts have helped South Bend to overcome these problems. With the acquisition of a minor league baseball team in the mid-80’s, the economy has continued to grow and, coupled with the urban renewal projects, South Bend has once again become a great place to live. Like most other cities in Indiana (and, indeed, the Midwest), the city lies in a humid continental climate zone, which means that the city experiences all four seasons equally. During the summer months, temperatures are known to get as high as 90 degrees, and rarely fall below 63. However, during winter, temperatures are in the low 20’s, well below freezing, and snowfall is common throughout the winter. South Bend is a wonderful place to live, and if you’re looking for auto transport to the city, look no further than American Auto Shipping.
