Raymondville is a city in as well as the county seat of Willacy County, Texas. According to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the city’s population was over 9,000, though recent census estimates have put the population at over 10,000. Raymondville today services as one of the largest immigrant holding sites in the United States, and is also a part of the larger Brownsville-Harlingen-Raymondville Combined Statistical Area, which is currently home to over 500,000 residents.

Edward Raymond founded the city in 1904 and growth began almost immediately, mainly thanks to Raymond’s ties to agriculture at the time. Raymondville remained relatively small and isolated over the years, and as the illegal immigration problem in the United States has become worse the federal government chose Raymondville as the site of one of the largest holding facilities for illegal immigrants awaiting deportation. This facility is still active to this day.

During the summer months average temperatures in Raymondville tend to reach into the low-to-mid 90’s during the day, though temperatures in the triple digits are not uncommon. Overnight, summer lows often dropping down into the low-to-mid 70’s, and during the winter months temperatures typically reach into the low-to-mid 60’s during the day while overnight lows in the winter tend to drop down into the low-to-mid 50’s.
