Peoria is the largest city situated on the Illinois River, and is the county seat of Peoria County, Illinois. The city is the sixth largest in the state, with a population just eclipsing 112,000 residents. The city lies in a humid tropical climate, like most of the rest of the state of Illinois, and as such has hot summers and cooler winters. Temperatures in the summer typically reach around 84 degrees, while the average low is around 60 degrees. During the winter, however, snowfall is common and winter highs rarely peak above 40 degrees, with average lows well below freezing.
