Daytona Beach is a city in Volusia County, Florida, and according to unofficial 2006 US Census Bureau estimates the city’s population was over 64,000 residents. It is the principal city of the Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area, which according to the same estimates had a population of almost 500,000.

Daytona Beach was founded in 1870 and incorporated only six years later. It was named after Matthias D. Day, who helped found the city, and in 1886 the first railroad was built, connecting Daytona Beach to the rest of the world. In 1936 the city became famous for holding the first stock car auto race, and in 1959 NASCAR was founded and the Daytona International Speedway began construction.

Because of its location on the Atlantic Ocean, temperatures in Daytona Beach tend to stay a bit cooler than the rest of Florida. During the summer months the temperatures peak around 89 degrees, with lows often dropping to around 72 degrees overnight. During the winter months the temperatures hit around 70 degrees with lows dropping to around 50 overnight.
