Auto Transport to and from Butte
Butte is the county seat of Silver Bow County, Montana. Silver Bow was actually its own city, but the city council in 1977 decided to consolidate both Butte and Silver Bow into one city, creating The City and County of Butte-Silver Bow, Montana. During the late 19th century, and up until around 1920, the city was notorious for being a lawless town with a notorious red light district. However, today, Butte is known for its family atmosphere.
The city began as a mining town in the late 19th century, and originally started out just mining for gold and silver. However, with the advent of electricity, copper became a huge commodity and the city boomed around the mining of it. The city continued to prosper, and was known at one point as the “Gibraltar of Unionism,” mainly due to the large labor union presence in the city. Mining officially stopped in the city in 1983, though the Berkeley Pit (the largest open pit copper mine in the US) is still there, covered with water.
The temperatures in the city, during the summer months, typically hover around 80 degrees or so during the day, and drop down to around 25 degrees at night. During the winter months, however, the temperature rarely exceeds 20 degrees, and during the night temperatures often go below 0 degrees. This is mainly due to the fact that the city lies in a very arid, yet cold, region.
