Boulder is a city in and is also the county seat of Boulder County, Colorado. Currently home to a population of over 97,000 residents, Boulder is the 11th largest city in the state of Colorado by population and currently sits at the heart of the Boulder Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is home to over 285,000 residents. Boulder is also the home of the University of Colorado at Boulder, the largest in the state, the largest university in the state of Colorado.

Boulder was founded in the early 1800’s during a time when the area was still a part of the Nebraska Territory. It remained unincorporated until 1871 and within two years a railroad had extended into the city, which in turn caused its population to boom. Mining at the time was a major source of income for the city, though today the city is known for its high tech businesses, many of which hire directly from the University of Colorado – Boulder. Education and technology have recently reshaped Boulder into a major economic powerhouse in the area, though its main source of income has been and is still the university.

During the summer months the city’s temperatures can reach into the mid-to-upper 80’s – rather warm for a Colorado city – while overnight lows tend to drop into the low-to-mid 50’s. Winter brings colder temperatures, with snow being common; average daily highs only reach into the mid-to-upper 40’s during the day, with overnight lows usually dropping down to just below freezing, and thus bringing the snow along with it.
