Bossier City is a city in Bossier Parish, Louisiana, but it is not the county seat of the county that shares its name – that belongs to Benton, which is just north of Bossier City. According to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the city’s population was over 56,000, and the city is a principal city of the Shreveport-Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area, which had a population of over 375,000 residents.

It was originally named Bennett’s Bluff though in the 1890′s the city’s name was changed to Bossier City. It was a major stopping point for pioneers during the Great Migration during the 1840′s and it grew rapidly during that time. In the late 19th century the oil industry came to the city and helped it to grow rapidly. Today, Bossier City is a major tourist destination and is known for its many casinos.

During the summer months average highs typically hit around 90 degrees during the day, with overnight lows averaging around 64 degrees. During the winter months, however, temperatures typically hit around 65 degrees during the day, with overnight lows dropping down to around 45 degrees.
