After ownership was settled in 1803, the city began to grow, changing from a small trading outpost to a full-on town, but the city stayed small until the construction of Kessler Air Force Base in the city during World War II. Population rise has slowed down in recent years, and urban renewal and new city planning techniques have turned Biloxi into a great place to live.
The city lies in a humid subtropical climate, which is characterized by long, hot summers and short, mild winters. Typically temperatures during the summer months hover around 90 degrees, with lows dipping around 70; in the winter, however, the temperature rarely exceeds 60 degrees, while lows dip down to around 38.
