Aurora is a city in both Arapahoe and Adams Counties, but wholly within the state of Colorado. It is the third largest city in the state, with a population of over 276,000, and is also the 59th largest city in the United States in terms of population. It is a principal city of the Denver-Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has a total population of over 2.4 million.

Aurora began life as Fletcher in 1891, though in 1907 the name was changed to Aurora (Latin for “dawn”) and remained a relatively small, tight-knit community until after World War II, when it became a suburb of the much larger city of Denver and grew rapidly.

During the summer months the city’s temperatures hit around 80 degrees during the day, with overnight lows often dropping to around 62 degrees. During the winter, however, temperatures are cold and snow is common; high temperatures hit around 33 degrees during the day, with lows dropping to around 12 degrees overnight.
