Auto Transport to and from Atlanta
Atlanta is the capital and largest city of the state of Georgia, and with over 500,000 people makes up the core of the eighth largest metropolitan area in the United States – and the fastest growing, in terms of numerical increase. The city is known for its rich and diverse heritage and culture, and many people flock there simply to get a taste of what so many people are talking about.
The city was founded in 1822 as a trading post, and the area grew by leaps and bounds. The fertile soil was perfect for farming and the access to rivers and ports made the slave trade boom. By 1836, the city council decided to build a railroad, which forced the evacuation of many Cherokee Indians from their homes (known as the Trail of Tears). During the Civil War, Atlanta was a major supply and railroad hub, serving the entire Confederacy until the Union Army burned the city. The city was actually one of the more progressive cities during the Civil Rights movement, and in 1973 was the first southern city to elect an African-American to the office of Mayor, and many cities soon followed suit. Today, Atlanta is a burgeoning metropolitan paradise.
The city itself is a typical Georgian city, in terms of climate, with hot summers and cooler winters. During the summer months, temperatures are seen to peak in the upper 80’s, with lows approaching the high 60’s, even going as high as the lower 70’s. During the winter, the average high only hits around the low 50’s with lows in the upper 30’s to lower 40’s, with little rainfall and even less snow.
