Auto Transport by Train

The Problem with Auto Transport by Rail

Shipping by train sounds like a great idea - you simply load your vehicle at the station, secure it, and pick it up at the destination, right? The problem is, shipping by rail doesn’t quite work like that. The main problem with auto transport by train is simply the cost – to load your vehicle onto a train can cost thousands of dollars - far more than shipping your vehicle door to door.

And it’s not quite as simple as just loading it onto the train. You’ll need to schedule your shipment beforehand, and make sure that you’re able to either drop your car off at a terminal (which in and of itself is a bad idea) by the train station or else have your vehicle picked up by a transport company and taken to the train station, where it will sit until a train going your way comes through town - that can take weeks or even months in some cases.

Another major problem with shipping by rail is the fact that no one really does it anymore. When the railroad and the steam engine came into prominence, shipping by rail was the main mode of getting things from point A to point B. However, with the advent of long-haul trucking, shipping by train has become more and more obsolete in recent years, especially in the auto transport industry.

Door to door shipments are much safer, cheaper and quicker than shipping by rail. The main advantage with door-to-door auto transport is the fact that you’re not tied down to a rail line; in other words, the driver can use the quickest method or route he can to get your vehicle to you. With rail shipping, you have to wait for the vehicle to show up at the train station, and then you have to drive it back to where you want it to go.

Ultimately, rail shipping is just not cost effective. For the price you pay and service you get, door-to-door shipping is much safer, faster, cheaper and more reliable, and if you’re looking to ship your vehicle, go ahead and call us toll free at 800-496-2134; you’ll receive ten free quotes from ten different American auto shipping companies who specialize in door to door service.
