Auto Shipping to Gresham, Oregon

Gresham 1Gresham is a city located in Multnomah County, Oregon, and is currently home to over 105,600 residents, making Gresham the fourth-largest city in the state of Oregon by population. Gresham was named after Walter Quinton Gresham, an American Civil War general, former Postmaster General, and a U.S. Appellate judge. He was a part of Grant’s overland campaign in 1862, eventually working his way up to Brigadier General and his own command over Sherman’s XVII Corps during the infamous Atlanta campaign. His name was chosen as the name for the settlement outside of Portland, known as Campground, mainly because the camp site needed to have a post office if it wanted to be incorporated. The post office was established fairly quickly, but incorporation would be delayed over 20 years, until 1905.

Gresham is located just east of Portland, Oregon, and is a major suburb of the city. Many surface streets of Portland extend east to Gresham, which makes it easier for pedestrians and private motorists to get to and from the area, but is only accessible from the Interstate Highway System via I-84, which can make it more difficult – and more expensive – for auto transport companies to move into, out of and through the city of Gresham. The Pacific Northwest on the whole is more difficult to ship to than other areas of the U.S., which generally results in increased prices anyway, but Gresham might be higher than normal because of its lack of access points for carriers.

That said, it’s not all gloom and doom, namely because you’re situated in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area, the largest between San Francisco and Seattle and a popular shipping location within the Northwest. This gives both you and your car transport carrier more options in terms of where to meet for pickup or delivery, and this is really great for you because it generally means you can get better deals by moving your pickup or delivery location to an areas easier to get to for your shipper. For instance, Gresham can be difficult to get to when shipping from the south, but from the east, say, Salt Lake City, it’s not as bad because I-84 goes right through the city. From L.A., though, I-5 is your best bet, so meeting your carrier near Tigard or even Salem, Oregon can save you time and money.

Luckily, Gresham is known for its rain, like most of the western Pacific Northwest, and not its snow, which the areas east of the Cascade Mountains are. This makes auto transportation to and from Gresham easier for carriers operating in the area, but there are some factors that will influence your price even if there’s no snow in the Portland metro area itself. Situated between the Oregon Coast and the Cascade Mountain range, Gresham, like much of the Portland metro area, receives much more rain than snow, though rain can also cause delays and problems, especially during the fall and spring months which tend to be the wettest of the year.
